A set of tin snips and he's through the rubber material in seconds. They feature a rubber clamp that fits around your rail and back into the foot which is then covered by the decorative cover which is locked in place by the lock cylinder and key. The AeroBlade Edge is a bar with a self-contained foot to attach to your factory roof rails. Anyhow I bought the Aeroblade Edge bars and I can't seem to figure out what these locks will protect against. I could Google it and find out but Thule should tell me. Since there's no instructions, just a couple of tidbits on the box, I have no idea what that 3rd key is for. I ordered a 4-pack and got 4 cylinders, 2 keys, and another key that I don't know what to do with. Save yourself the potential headache by doing your own due diligence before you make the purchase.īought the 4-pack and contrary to one of the reviews you don't get an extra. Unfortunately you wouldn’t notice a leaking issue until it rains hard enough or you go through a drivethrough car wash. That’s taking the situation from just an inconvenience to a fitment issue that can permanently damage customers cars.Īnyways, just a heads up! If you’re considering these, I recommend doing a search on google or car forums to make sure that these will not cause any leaking on you’re specific vehicle. They should either: a) address the fitment issues or b) pull those specific cars off or their compatibility list so that people don’t buy them and expect them to work like they should.Ī few drops of water here and there is not that big of a deal but when those drops of water drip onto your window switch and leather door cards long enough to damage and malfunction the window switch (where it mainly leaks onto) or lifts/bows the leather material on the ’s a serious problem. A quick search online shows that my leaking issues are not an isolated case.there are tons of similar complaints. I understand that it’s unrealistic to expect an EXACT fitment for every customers cars since no 2 vehicles are going to be exactly the same but you’d think something as big as water leaking issues would be taken seriously. I really can’t believe that Thule, biggest name in the rack industry, hasn't addressed these fitment issues and continue to sell these as direct fit despite being made aware of these leaking issues across multiple makes and models of cars/trucks. I’m honestly surprised that a huge trend-setting company like Thule has a product marketed as being an exact fit for customers cars but leads to leaking water into the car and eventually causing damage. It’s only when the car is drenched and isn’t a big leak but a little bit here and there added up over time and finally caused some damage. They come with 2 window-length rubber gaskets to use but I get leaking even with those on. I triple checked the install and everything was tightened down and according to the manual (this is my 6th install of racks so I’m very familiar with the process but figured I’d check the instructions just in case somethings different). 4 rubber pieces/gaskets come in the box and those are supposed to help create a better seal on certain cars but water has leaked in regardless of whether those were used or not. The water comes in exactly where the legs have been installed (between door and roof). One major issue with these.water leaks in from drivers door and front passengers door during heavy rain or car washes.
